I watched the last episode of the last season of The Wire tonight. I only started watching Season 1 in September after a friend recommended it with the kind of zeal you rarely encounter when people are talking about television programmes.
Since then I’ve bought all the box sets (bar Season 3, which I borrowed) and I’ve spent the equivalent of a full two-and-a-half days of my life watching it. Now that it’s over I feel a strange, empty gulf opening up. I barely need to say this but it started incredibly and got better and better.
So anyway, I’ve now finished weeping ecstatically into my Shreddies and I’m filling my time watching Celebrity Big Brother. The familiar feeling of contempt towards humanity is slowly returning.
