The trouble with hype
Monday, 20 October 2008
Comic Sarah Silverman’s apparently disastrous appearance at the Hammersmith Apollo over the weekend proves that if you hype something beyond the level to which its promise can possibly be fulfilled, the risk of it being shit is magnified tenfold.
Thus an appearance on Jonathan Ross and the cover of the Guardian Weekend is not a copper-bottommed recommendation of the quality of Silverman’s comedy. Rather, it demonstrates that she has a good agent.
Since when does it cost £50 to watch a stand-up comedian anyway?

Thanks Robin. I was worried that the standard of debate on this blog had fallen but clearly I was wrong.
