Words Dept. is One

This blog, built and written by my own hands with only occasional assistance from my brain, was exactly one year old yesterday. It’s been a rollercoaster ride of pure emotion, I’m sure you’ll agree!

During that time, I have steadily built the readership of the blog from a mere fourteen to a massive fifteen readers, including dear Robin, who has posted a commendable 48 comments when he should really have been editing a motoring website. So thank you to him, to Rev Stan and my other regular readers.

I thought you might be interested to see the most popular search terms that have brought people to the blog during the last year. By far the most popular search term is “Nigella Lawson”, or (often mis-spelt) variations thereof, whose comely figureĀ has driven more than 3,000 hits to the site. This is clearly caused by Google images. Until recently, if you typed in “Nigella Lawson”, this site (specifically a post from last September) was the fourth result - although it seems to have vanished in recent weeks, for some reason.

The rest appears to be a mix of Jamie Hewlett enthusiasts, JJ Abrams geeks, fans of North West Tonight and people looking for sexual kicks. The full top 20 is below with occasional comments in brackets.

Anyway, here’s to another year full of joy and excitement. And erotic pleasure, natch.

    Ah, youth.

Once you reach the heady heights of five years of a blog, like me you can expect things like “budapest prostitutes” and “teen group sex” to be in your top search terms.

    It’s something to shoot at…

I’ve never been sure what the netiquette of using copyrighted photos is on blogs. It seems to fall under that grey area of ‘probably-illegal-but-you’re=probably-not-worth-suing’, which is an uncomfortable position, at best.

I’m always concerned that Google Images might lead some litigious image bank to my site, so tend to tag any dubious photos with utterly irrelevant nonsense.

My invoice is in the post, by the way.

Now I feel bad because I haven’t read Words dept for over a week and I missed your first birthday and you mentioned me and everything.
    Happy Birthday.
Promise I’ll try and be a good regular reader from now on.
