Bianca: that screech isn’t funny anymore

A couple of very awful things have got me riled this weekend and I can’t work out which is the more dreadful.

One is China’s human rights record and the fact that many of its worst aspects, such as detention without trial, aren’t being reformed despite claims that the Olympics would bring about change.

Which is bad, obviously. But then there’s also this disgraceful and humiliating trailer for EastEnders, which has been on BBC 1 seemingly every hour. The combination of prattish dancing, cacophonous cockney screeching and Steve McFadden becomes approximately twenty times more annoying each time I see it.

Why don’t they just cast Bianca as “the Nancy” in Oliver! and be done with it?
