I’m watching GMTV again. The section called Entertainment Today, or just ET, as it was introduced. (Sadly there are no aliens, unless there’s something we don’t know about Jenni Falconer.)
They just featured an interview with Antony Cotton off of Coronation Street, who was discussing the storyline in tonight’s episode. I fully understand the purpose of a promotional teaser but I watched, baffled, as they explained in full detail exactly what will happen. There was no plot spoiler alert, nothing. Then, get this, they showed a clip of it happening.
It’s basically a child abduction of some sort, although since I don’t watch Corry and because the acting is very much of the pine-wardrobe-with-occasional-shouting variety, I can’t be 100% sure of the detail. (I did notice that Cotton plays his character as a cross between Australian celebrity chef Bill Granger and Marc Wootton in My New Best Friend.)
Remember, this is tonight’s episode. Are people so thick that they have the narrative explained in advance in order to understand what’s going on? I could be wrong but I don’t remember them doing this before the final episode of The Sopranos – and yet most viewers seemed to enjoy it.
Then the male interviewer, who I have since identified as Michael Underwood, rounded off the interview by saying, enthusiastically
I really can’t wait to see what happens tonight.
Amazing.
Now Gareth Gates (still faking a slight stammer to set the mums off weeping) is on, whinging in his Bratfut drawl
It’s always on really early, this programme.
No shit, Gaz. It’s fucking GMTV.
I should probably start some work now.
