10.9m people lose their minds (for charity)

I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! was beaten for the first time in the ratings on Friday… by Children in Need.

It’s baffling that up to 8.7m people are tuning in to watch what must be the least inspiring selection of jungle D-listers yet. But the fact that, at its peak, 10.9m were watching Children in Need on Friday is utterly astounding.

Who are these people? Does anyone rush home from work thinking “Yes! There’s a charity telethon on tonight!” A lot of people must do.

And why are the newsreaders dancing in tights? Why is the weather forecaster in evening dress? It’s not funny, it’s just messed up.

I went out on Friday night to avoid it – and I very rarely do that, as my very limited circle of friends will tell you. I got back to see an excruciating version of Never Mind the Buzzcocks, with Radio 1 DJ’s versus their Radio 2 counterparts. Ken Bruce and Jeremy Vine looked a little disorientated, while Terry Wogan seemed to be operating within a parallel universe, such was his confusion. He looked like he was ready for bed.

Wogan also admitted at one point that he was “begging” people to give money. I don’t want to switch on the telly and see an old bloke begging for cash, even if it is for charity.

And whenever I see Tel now, all I can think of is this image:

Matron, take them away.

They were probably watching for the Doctor WHo spesh with Peter Davison and Tennant. It was annoying, unfunny and smug.

Thanks for that picture. It’s put me right off my tea.
And there is plenty of other shit on the telly to watch on the Friday night.
