Sun’s Pete Doherty story stretches “exclusive” definition to breaking point
Thursday, 23 August 2007
The Sun reports today that “Junkie Pete Doherty has been banned from a PRISON gig - because he is a bad influence”.
It’s an “EXCLUSIVE by Danielle Lawler”. Or, at least, it’s an EXCLUSIVE in the sense that the same story was in the Independent’s arts section last week. It was also here, and here and here in recent days.
Tomorrow’s Sun will presumably feature the EXCLUSIVE news that England lost a football match on Wednesday night.
(The charity gig, by the way, is organised by Wasted Youth, and aims to highlight the issue of young male suicides - so the fact that the Sun is covering it is no bad thing. Still, I like to imagine someone handing over lots of cash in a brown paper bag in order to get the latest “Junkie Pete” scoop, then realising all they had to do was read the Indy.)
FYI: The Sun has carried a total of 765 articles involving Pete Doherty since 2005.
