Project Slosho, Cloverfield, 1-18-08 (or whatever it’s called)

Witness the power of hype. This mystery trailer has echoes of Blair Witch Project and is causing similar ripples. It’s a film that doesn’t even have a title yet but is sending YouTube theorists into a frenzy.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Project Slosho/Cloverfield/1-18-08 as it’s variously known, is produced by JJ Abrams of Lost fame – a man blessed with the ability to enthrall an audience with the twin elements of confusion and mystery. I’m not sure about tapping into the continued paranoia around a second 9/11-style Manhattan terror attack as a way of marketing a film but, hey, I guess it’s par for the course.
