Glasgow city council has decided to engage with the problem of fly posters by sticking “Cancelled” stickers on them.
I’m doubtful this is going to have any meaningful effect. In the short term, it’s going to confuse people, who’ll think that major events have been cancelled when they haven’t. In the long term, nobody is going to notice the cancelled stickers – they’ll just become as much a part of the urban landscape as the posters themselves. So what’s the point?
It could be viewed, I suppose, as quite a clever, Banksy-inspired sort of plan – a guerilla-style attack on problem flyposters. In which case bravo. Still pointless, though.
